Lisa Satin - with frame

Lisa Satin first become involved with GleanKY before there even was a GleanKY.  She, along with others concerned about food waste and hunger in their communities, was inspired after participating in a local food summit in 2010.  It was then that she began attending meetings to explore the idea of an organization dedicated to reducing both food waste and hunger.

The concept of gleaning, or collecting excess produce for those who are hungry, made sense to Lisa.  “I think it is crazy to waste food that is good to eat, especially when people who can’t afford fresh fruits and vegetables need it to remain healthy,” she explained.  It was that passion that led her to join the GleanKY board of directors in 2013 and volunteer to head the development committee in 2015.

Lisa chooses to donate because of her passion for the mission.  “I am most excited about the nutrition and health benefits which GleanKY makes possible,” she said.

As the chairperson of the development committee, she believes in GleanKY’s work and in the power of gleaning to solve many challenges.  “I tell people thinking about donating that GleanKY solves three problems at once: prevents food waste, helps low-income people obtain healthy food, and is good for the environment by keeping food out of the landfill.”
