The Edible Garden Series will hold the first meeting of 2011 at Beaumont Presbyterian Church on Saturday 26 February from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The gathering will be a seed swap and meet-n-greet for gardeners of all experience levels.
“This is a great networking opportunity, so even gardeners who don’t have seed to swap should plan on attending,” said John Walker, founder and coordinator of the Edible Garden Series. “We get to share ideas about this year’s garden plans and stories about last year’s garden successes and failures.” He pointed out that the seed swap may allow gardeners to try out new varieties with just a few seeds rather than an entire package. “That can be a lot less intimidating, especially for a beginning gardener,” he added.
The Edible Garden Series, now in its fourth year, meets about six times throughout the season and focuses especially on topics related to vegetable, fruit, and herb gardening. For example, the 19 March meeting will be about how to start seeds and care for seedlings until they can be planted outside. Registration is not required, and there is no cost to attend.
