Happy National Farmers’ Market Week! Farmers’ markets support local farm economies, provide access to fresh, locally grown food, and create connections in our communities. What’s more, many farmers’ markets in Central and South Central Kentucky have partnered with Glean Kentucky for years to share farmers’ unsold produce with those in need of food assistance.

Glean Kentucky has been working with Lexington Farmers’ Market every summer since Glean Kentucky was founded in 2010! We pick up produce at both the Thursday farmers’ market, which is newly located 737 National Avenue (close to Mirror Twin Brewing) and at the Sunday farmers’ market on Southland Drive.

The gleaned produce from the Sunday Market is gleaned by Will Anglin and his family and shared between and distributed by Cardinal Valley Park, Calvary Church of the Nazarene and UK Campus Kitchen.

We are so grateful for our partnership with LFM, which has been a foundational part of Glean Kentucky’s presence and growth in Lexington and Central Kentucky!

We are also gleaning both the Woodford County and Franklin County farmers’ markets as well, thanks to a few dedicated volunteers, namely Annette Hayden in Franklin County and Larry Leach in Woodford County.

The Community Farmers Market in Bowling Green has also been an important partner since we began working in the South Central Kentucky region almost four years ago. Through our partnership with farmers at CFM, we are able to provide locally grown fruits and vegetables to the feeding agencies we work with in Bowling Green all year long.

If you’re not doing so already, be sure and get out to your local farmers’ market this season!
