June is the month that many of our seasonal gleaning opportunities, like farms and farmers markets, really start in earnest. Check out some of the ways you can be involved below:

Farmers’ Markets
One way that you can get involved is by helping us glean at the Lexington Farmers’ Market on Southland Drive every Sunday. We need 4-6 volunteers to meet us at the market each Sunday at 1:45pm to visit all of the farmers’ booths and collect any produce donations they have at the end of the market. We’re also seeking a committed volunteer who can be the Site Leader on Sundays and drive the GleanKY van. You can sign up to glean at the Farmers’ Market here.

Farms
The best way to stay updated about farm gleaning opportunities is join the Rapid Response Team. You’ll get a text message or email whenever a farmer asks us to come glean their farm (typically with 24 to 48 hours notice), and if you’re free at that time, let us know. We may even be able to coordinate carpooling to and from the farm. To join the Rapid Response Team, contact Jordan (information below).

Grocery Stores
Some of the grocery stores you can help glean in Lexington this month include:
– Mondays at 10am: Glean Lucky’s Market and deliver to Moveable Feast and Embrace Church.
– Tuesdays at 10am: Glean Fresh Thyme and deliver to Picadome Elementary and the Family Care Center.
– Thursdays at 10am: Glean Lucky’s Market and deliver to Lexington Market East End.
– Thursdays at 10am: Glean Fresh Thyme and deliver to Harrison Elementary School and the Ballard-Griffith Towers.

This list might change as more volunteers sign up to glean. For an up-to-date listing of all our gleaning opportunities, and to register yourself to glean, check out our listing on SignUp.com.
