Dana and Trudie Reed have made a difference in the lives of thousands. By opening up their orchard to our gleaners each year, they empower us to provide fresh apples, pears, squash, and pumpkins to 35 feeding programs across Central Kentucky. These 35 agencies work diligently to serve people of all walks of life who find themselves food-insecure and we’re honored to be able to supplement their services with fresh produce.

The Reeds tend to over 3,000 fruit trees, providing fresh food to farmers markets, local grocers, schools, and directly to the community through the “you-pick” portion of the orchard. During the peak season, GleanKY is invited to clean up the excess and the wind-fallen fruits for donation. The scale at which this partnership has impacted our mission never ceases to amaze. We haul thousands of pounds of fresh produce out of Reed Valley Orchard on a weekly basis and sometimes our gleaning results in thousands of pounds being redistributed in a single day. Over the last 6 years, the Reeds have donated over 100,000 pounds of fruit to our network of agencies.

Trudie Reed describes our relationship as a win-win: “GleanKY has been a Godsend to us, picking up fruits that don’t go to waste that way. That is very important to us, to be able to feed the community in that way.”

You don’t have to own an orchard to make a difference in the lives of others (though we’d love to know if you do!). By making a donation today, you can join the Reeds and GleanKY in providing fresh produce to our neighbors in need. www.razoo.com/gleaning4KY
