Kentucky Bank supports GleanKY to provide food to those in need.

Hunger is a fact of life everywhere, in every county, in Kentucky.  The organization, GleanKY (gleanky.org) is making a difference. Kentucky Bank and GleanKY combined efforts to help make a difference helping food-insecure individuals in Central Kentucky.

GleanKY and Kentucky Bank have similar service areas in Central Kentucky. Glean distributes food to many agencies that provide food through backpack programs, YMCA, HOPE shelters, schools, church outreach programs, and for more than 80 partner recipients. By gleaning (gathering) excess produce from farms, orchards, grocery stores, farmers markets and home gardens, GleanKY reduces local food waste and provides fruits and vegetable to supporting organizations.  They serve as a vital link between local sources of food and dozens of feeding programs.

Rod Brotherton, Vice President of Wealth Management and Trust Services at Kentucky Bank, became aware of GleanKY while working as a cook for the “Just Lunch” free meal program at First Presbyterian Church. Rod, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate and former Marine Corps Officer who grew up in Richmond, believes giving back and helping fellow citizens in need is what we all should do. Brotherton said, “This isn’t the exclusive role of government, but rather our duty to each other as human beings.” There is an old saying that goes, “Life is short and we have too little time to gladden the hearts of those who travel the way with us. So, be swift to love, and make haste to be kind.”
