Here at GleanKY, we are committed to building relationships to better address the nutritional needs of our recipients. We won’t get to meet every recipient of our fresh produce or shake the hand of every individual who volunteers at our 60 partner agencies, but we keep the people we meet and the stories we hear in our hearts when we make every strategic decision.
How can we better reach people like Betsy who struggle to meet their dietary requirements due to chronic illness and lack of transportation?
How can we continue to empower community leaders like Christina and Samantha to voice the ever-changing needs of their neighbors?
How can we better respond to farmers like Ann who so desperately don’t want their crops to go to waste?
GleanKY strives to create opportunities for relationship building wherever possible: we host volunteer gatherings, we identify neighborhood ambassadors, we host community meetings, and we work to meet people where they are.
Recently, we got a gimps of what’s possible if relationship building is made a priority. Our newest Chapter, Glean Madison, has been delivering produce to a housing authority complex in Berea for several months. On a recent strategy call, we learned that in addition to distributing fresh produce, the drop offs have provided an opportunity for residents to interact for the first time. Residents have made friends, found babysitters, and even formed an association to help advocate for their collective needs. We must admit, nothing makes us prouder.
