For those of you who have known GleanKY for years, what GleanKY values may be obvious. Our volunteers, staff, and board members have always embraced respect, inclusiveness, and empathy. You many have even noticed our gleaning “mottos” lining the bottom of each page on our website, loosely outlining how we connect excess produce with feeding programs around Central Kentucky.

As we near the completion of our 5th year of work, we thought it was about time we wrote our values down and started sharing them with others. We think our mission is unique, and we know it must be transparent. So, here they are: GleanKY’s Values.

GleanKY’s mission is guided and informed by our commitment to:

  • Respect: We treat our recipients with respect and dignity.
  • Inclusiveness: We serve the underserved and food-insecure populations of Kentucky.
  • Empathy over Efficiency: We are committed to building relationships to better address the nutritional needs of our recipients.
  • Engagement: We are dedicated to consulting and connecting our recipients with food education, storage and preserving practices.
  • Integrity: We supply recipients with fresh, quality, edible produce.
  • Distribution of free food: We form partnerships with recipients who provide free access to fresh produce.
  • Food Recovery: We strive to glean and redistribute excess produce before it becomes food waste and encourage our partners to use all food received, redistribute what they cannot use, and compost any food that becomes inedible.

These values will be permanently displayed on our website here. Please join us as we use the values to lead us in expanding and evolving the critical services we provide.
