One of the things that attracted me to GleanKY as a volunteer and what has kept me around to serve in many different capacities over the years is the attitude of gratitude our organization practices. To be quite frank, we can’t do this work alone. Gleaning simply wouldn’t be possible without the cooperation of many people, including the farmers and grocers who alert us when there’s an abundance of produce.
That’s why on June 21, we’re partnering with the United Way of the Bluegrass to give back to the growers that have done so much to help us feed the food-insecure. Two of our partner farmers, Reed Valley Orchard and Erik’s Organics, will be a host site for UWBG’s Day Of Action, and our volunteers will be helping do farm work in preparation for the bounty that’s to come. We’ll be weeding, building raised beds and doing other farm work, so prepare to get a little dirty and have a lot of fun.
Our farmers have been so generous in donating their extras in order to help nourish the people of Kentucky, so we feel it’s only right that we support them in return. If you’d like to come out and give back to our farmers, sign up via the links below.
