Gleaning at the Sunday market

This past week Faith Feeds collected and delivered approximately 1,200 pounds of fresh food from the Lexington Farmer’s Market, the University of Kentucky’s South Farm, and the church garden at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.
We had a new experience this week – we picked up approximately 180 organic cantaloupes from UK’s South Farm – 2/3 were delivered to the George Privett Recovery Center and the other 1/3 were taken for use by the food ministries of Centenary United Methodist.
As a result of everyone’s collective efforts, the adults and children of LaRoca, Maxwell Street Presbyterian, Kids’ Cafe, the Men’s and Women’s Hope Center, including the George Privett Recovery Center (they were very enthused about the cantaloupes – even the idea of cutting them up), and Lighthouse Ministries had fresh food.
Senior Girl Scout Troop 849 and others harvested 240 pounds of produce from Resurrection’s garden on Saturday – 192 lbs were donated to the Haitian community and 48 lbs were donated to God’s Pantry.
Many thanks to last week’s volunteers, which included Girl Scout Troop 849 and folks from the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Beaumont Presbyterian, Maxwell Street Presbyterian, First Presbyterian, Centenary United Methodist, the Hamilton Park neighborhood, and In-Feed.
