Before the holidays, Glean volunteers went on an urban foraging expedition for the first time, gathering 51 pounds of fallen persimmons around Louisville and delivering to our partners at VOA South Oaks Senior Housing and Feed Louisville. Thank you to local urban grower Lots of Food for help in identifying the best trees. Volunteers shared knowledge and skills around persimmon tree planting and recipes, as well as identifying some invasive plant species we saw along the way. We had a great time, and look forward to incorporating more urban foraging into our gleans this new year. Check out https://fallingfruit.org/ if you are curious about what fruit and nut trees live in your area.
