The Edible Garden Series will hold a workshop on “Starting a Fall Garden” at Beaumont Presbyterian Church on Tuesday 16 August from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The workshop will cover plants that can be grown in the fall, when to plant them, and strategies for protecting plants against frost. Gardeners of all experience levels are welcome.
“We typically have a long fall growing season in this part of Kentucky,” said John Walker, founder and coordinator of the Edible Garden Series. “With a little planning, gardeners can harvest fresh food well into early winter.” He noted that many fall crops will even continue to produce right through the winter if the weather is mild enough.
The Edible Garden Series meets about six times throughout the season and focuses especially on topics related to vegetable, fruit, and herb gardening. Registration is not required, and there is no cost to attend.
Beaumont Presbyterian Church is located at 1070 Lane Allen Road in Lexington. Parking and entrance to the fellowship hall are in the rear, off Athenia Drive. For more information, call 859-278-5062.
