During the month of September, Faith Feeds volunteers gathered more than 3,000 lbs of produce and delivered it to various emergency food agencies in Lexington. More than half of that came from Reed Valley Orchard, who has invited us to glean every week. The growers at the Lexington Farmers Market have continued to be the backbone of our efforts, and this past week the Bluegrass Farmers Market donated 150 lbs of produce and a large box of flowers — food for the spirit!
This brings our total for this growing season to 27,000 lbs! We are deeply thankful for the many growers and volunteers who gave so generously to make this possible. On behalf of the hundreds of individuals and families who benefited from your efforts, thank you!
That being said, there are still plenty of opportunities to serve in this ministry:
Thursday markets: 21 and 28 October
Sunday markets: 10, 17, 24, and 31 October
Orchard gleaning: weekly on Wednesday or Thursday
Community garden gleaning: to be determined
