Meet New Assistant South Central Kentucky Field Coordinator Sarah Wichman

I’m so excited to be an official team member of Glean Kentucky as I take on the role of Assistant South Central Kentucky Field Coordinator out of Bowling Green!  I’ve been volunteering since 2022, back when post-covid days had many of us feeling challenged with a sense of separation from our own communities.  Volunteering at Glean KY means I get to see friendly faces every week and stay in touch with the reality of how many people are struggling with food insecurity.

Being part of a mission that nourishes Kentucky’s hungry with nutritious produce that would otherwise be headed to a landfill is time well spent! Just like Gleaning means to gather small amounts from a variety of sources, volunteers’ time counts like every pound of produce gathered.  When the lead field coordinator is picking up and delivering from many locations in one morning, volunteers help make the deliveries run smoothly. You can imagine that when there is a 6 foot high pallet of bananas to be collected, the more hands the better!

A little about me personally, I’ve lived in Bowling Green since 2009 and happy to have grown some good roots here. From raising a family with my husband, taking on jobs in the community, to meeting people from all walks of life who live here, I am beyond grateful to reside in this region. My hobbies are keeping a small zoo of dog, cat and chickens as pets (who also make you breakfast), trying to convince my Gen Z teen to hang out with Gen X/Millennial parents, hiking, birdwatching, photography and making art (Instagram @littlemammothlife- but be sure to follow @glean_ky first!).

I’m so looking forward to the future of Glean Kentucky and the impact we are making throughout the state!
