Summer in North Central Kentucky has been quite bountiful!

To date, 3,833.4lbs of produce have been moved from various donors–with Rootbound Farm being our largest donor with 3,263.3lbs! This is in part to what has been deemed “squashmaggedon,” so I’m very happy we got the partnership set up with Rootbound earlier in the season!

On July 3rd, I went out to Valley Spirit Farm to glean 300ft beds of swiss chard, dandelion greens, and curly kale, which netted 131lbs of produce that was otherwise going to be mulched back into the field! The produce went to Feed Louisville and HighPoint, who are very large recipient organizations in Jefferson and Oldham counties, respectively. So, overall, I consider those 3 hours of harvesting well spent!

Bernheim Edible Garden became a new donor last month. They had the blessing of too much food being produced just for their cafe, so their Edible Garden Steward, Giselle, reached out to make sure that produce got somewhere that made an impact!

A few new potential partnerships are in the works. So, more produce from various, more consistent outlets may be coming later in the growing season–or the following year!
