The Edible Garden Series will hold a workshop on “Dealing with Heat and Pests,” at Beaumont Presbyterian Church on Saturday 21 May from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The workshop will focus on techniques for monitoring and reducing stress factors that affect garden plants and will include watering, mulching, and disease and pest control. Gardeners of all experience levels are welcome.

“Healthy plants are their own best defense against insect pests and diseases,” according to John Walker, founder and coordinator of the Edible Garden Series. “There are lots of things that gardeners can do to work with a plant’s natural defenses. Sometimes the best way to respond to a specific problem is to support the overall health of the plant.” He added that the workshop discussion will include knowing when to intervene in the garden as well as how.

The Edible Garden Series meets about six times throughout the season and focuses especially on topics related to vegetable, fruit, and herb gardening. Registration is not required, and there is no cost to attend.

Beaumont Presbyterian Church is located at 1070 Lane Allen Road in Lexington. Parking and entrance to the fellowship hall are in the rear, off Athenia Drive. For more information, call 859-278-5062.
