New Volunteers

Are you curious what gleaning is all about? Come to one of our upcoming volunteer trainings in Lexington to learn more about how you can help prevent food waste and fight hunger in our community. Simply put, gleaning and food redistribution depend on passionate volunteers who are willing to do the dirty work of rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste. It’s not glamorous. It can even smell weird sometimes. But it’s so so so important! These trainings will take less than an hour, and there’s no commitment. Just come and see if gleaning is something for you.

The next Lexington volunteer training will take place at the Plantory (501 W 6th St, Suite 250, Lexington, KY – at the corner of W 6th and Jefferson) at 11am on Thursday, January 25th.

Seasoned Gleaners

Welcome to the 2018 gleaning season! It may be cold here in Central Kentucky, but food waste and hunger don’t stop, and neither do our volunteers. We’re staying busy this time of year with grocery gleaning.

Glean when you can, or, if you can make time your calendar, let us know if you want to take on a recurring weekly shift! Take a look at some of the grocery stores you can help glean in Lexington this month:

Wednesdays at 11am: Glean Lucky’s Market and deliver to the Nest.
Thursdays at 11am: Glean Lucky’s Market and deliver to Lexington Market East End.
Thursdays at 10am: Glean Whole Foods and deliver to the Ballard-Griffith Towers.
Saturdays at 11am: Glean Lucky’s Market and deliver to Valley Park.

This list might change as more volunteers sign up to glean. For an up-to-date listing of all our gleaning opportunities, and to register yourself to glean, check out our listing on SignUp.com.
