GleanKY’s 10th and final Heirloom Seed Sale will be held on February 3, 2018 at Hunter Presbyterian Church from 9 AM to 3 PM. We’ll offer the same 51 varieties of heirloom fruit and vegetable seeds that we’ve had in years past, and will have Master Gardeners on hand to help answer your gardening questions. In addition, we’re holding workshops on composting, seed starting, heirloom seeds, and getting involved with GleanKY. We will also have areas set up for garden planning and other garden-related crafts.

Schedule of Workshops:

10:00am Seed Starting Workshop (John Walker, home gardener)
Using seeds can be the most cost effective way to grow your own food. This workshop will cover all of the
tips and tricks you need to ensure the seeds you plant grow into healthy plants.

11:30am Why Heirlooms? (Bill Best, farmer and heirloom expert)
Bill Best is a Berea-based farmer who grows, advocates for, and preserves heirloom seeds. Bill will explain the
importance of growing heirloom varieties and answer any questions new gardeners may have. Bill will also be
on hand throughout the sale selling and signing his two books.

1:30pm Composting Workshop (Seedleaf Staff Member)
Learn the basics of small scale home composting. Seedleaf will talk about some of what is going on inside the
active pile, and how to troubleshoot common problems. There will also be plenty of time for your questions and
comments. Finished compost for your spring garden will be available for purchase at $5/5g bucket.

2:30pm GleanKY 101 (Jordan Engel, GleanKY Staff Member)
Are you curious what gleaning is all about? Come to this workshop to learn more about how you can help
prevent food waste and fight hunger in our community!

As mentioned above, this year will be the final year GleanKY hosts the Heirloom Seed Sale – as our gleaning commitments and financial needs have grown, we’ve decided to move our fundraising efforts to other events. We’re hopeful we can find another great group in our community to carry this sale into the future!
